Whitemarsh Hall had served as a fireproof stronghold for ninety van-loads of art, including French furniture, medieval ivories, renaissance bronzes, gothic tapestries, and five hundred painting that had been shipped down from the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City.

The house was built of Indiana Limestone. Marble from Italy, Oriental rugs, French furniture, Medieval tapestries, paintings by the masters, and chandeliers.
